Numerical methods can widely use for stability analysis and design of support system in every underground excavation with different shape and dimensions. The results can also be used to design support systems in this and any other coal mine under similar conditions.

Comparison of Numerical methods and Empirical methods can help to better understanding of these methods abilities in design of support system. Also it can clear limitations of these methods. The results obtained from both numerical and empirical methods were compared under different load conditions.

Utilization of rock bolts is a support system that increases the strength of the rock in which tunnels are made. Extensive use of rock bolts is made nowadays in most underground mines. In this paper, changing the support system from expensive methods to the use of rock bolts, as primary means of support, in a particular gallery in a coal mine has been studied. Visionary design methods in conjunction with rock mass classification schedules have been used to determine an optimum rock bolt pattern. For this purpose, RMR and Q classification systems have been used. Several empirical methods were also used to design an optimum pattern for rock bolt installation in the particular tunnel under analysis.

Tunnels and galleries are the most important structures in coal mines. One of the most important tasks after excavation of tunnels is the implementation and installation of a support system. Tunnels and galleries collapse poses a safety hazard and can cause worker injuries. In addition, it may have a severe economic impact because tunnel and gallery collapse can stop production and ore transportation. Therefore, an appropriate support system is necessary for collapse prevention and to help stabilize the tunnels and galleries.
