When the overlying strata is hard, the height of the two zones and falling angle of the strata are small, the movement of the overlying strata is fast to transfer to the surface; The sphere of subsidence influence and subsidence values are large; the time for the overlying strata to remain stable is longer; the thread of water inrush can be eliminated by reducing the width of the coal pillar and increasing the interval period of the repeat mining and the resource recovery ratio can be also enhanced.

The empirical formula for predicting the “two zones” is no longer appropriate for the prediction of the extremely thick coal seam in repeat mining condition. The height of the “two zones” increases nonlinearly with the height of the repeat mining

Problem Statement:

Many extremely thick coal seams exist in the Xinjiang and north part of the Inner Mongolia; the thicknesses of these coal seams are almost over 30-40 meters. This kind of the thick coal seam is too difficult to extract at one time and the common mining method is sub-level caving.
